TWC beefs up HD lineups in Brooklyn, Queens and Mount Vernon

Time Warner Cable is stirring the HD pot in the Empire State once more, this time bringing the lineups in Brooklyn, Queens and Mount Vernon up to par with those already stocked (Staten Island, we're looking at you). In a new programming announcement on the provider's website, we're told that the "previously announced drop of MOJO (796) on October 1st has been postponed," presumably until sometime in December. Additionally, Brooklyn / Queens will be seeing HBO HD (651), Cinemax HD (658), Showtime HD (666), TMC HD (674), Starz HD (676), Cartoon Network HD (722), FX HD (737) and Speed HD (774) on October 22nd. Including Mount Vernon, all three locales will get Big Ten Network HD (472), CBS College Sports HD (467), ESPNU HD (793) and Tennis Channel HD (465). Stellar news, right? Full shot of the announcement is after the break. [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]

Oregon Comcast users to lose MOJO, gain a few others in December

It looks as if the last sliver of hope for MOJO HD has vanished, as we're now facing yet another report pounded out in the all-telling black and white that spells out MOJO's demise. A recent bill sent to an Oregon Comcast subscriber explained that MOJO HD would be falling off of the EPG "on or after December 1st," although SPEED HD (723), Versus HD (732), Golf HD (733), FOX News HD (748) and FX HD (753) would be added. Interestingly, this also points out the separation of Versus / Golf HD as a single station, though we're unsure if this will end up being a sweeping change or simply a localized one.

Oceanic Time Warner Cable adds 4 HD channels in Oahu and Kauai

We can say with a straight face that there's hardly a time in Hawaii where watching HDTV trumps being out and about amidst paradise, but even those who can't spend enough time on pristine beaches need to kick back and catch some some high-def entertainment every now and then. Oceanic Time Warner Cable has just announced that customers on the islands of Oahu (pictured) and Kauai will soon (read: this week) be treated to four new HD stations: Hallmark Movie Channel HD (1453), FOX Business HD (1108), Big Ten Network HD (1248) and Travel Channel HD (1325). When the additions are made, Oceanic TWC will offer a full 42 stations in Hawaii, giving you one less reason to resist the urge of buying that one-way ticket to OGG / HNL / KOA / etc.

Insight to add more HD options in Kentucky

It's been a long, long while since we've heard any good news on the HD expansion front from Lexington-based Insight Communications, but at long last, the carrier has emerged from the woodwork to assure us all that it's still alive and well. The firm has just announced its intentions to carry 56 high-definition channels by "early December," with a few of the newcomers to include FOX News HD, CNN HD, The History Channel HD and SciFi HD. A spokeswoman for the company admitted that most of the additions would be available at no cost, though we assume a few of 'em may fall into pay tiers. Hang tight, Insight users -- help is on the way.

Cablevision adding five more ho hum HD channels

Look, we fully get that any HD is better than no HD, but when a carrier can't find the time to add USA HD, SciFi HD and HBO HD, we begin to wonder who's setting the prioroties. It's being bruited that five new high-def networks will be landing on Cablevision's systems on or around October 14th: VH1 HD, Palladia, Fuse HD, CMT HD and NHL HD. Not the most riveting list of newcomers we've ever seen, but hey, beggars can't be choosers.

Charter brings Food Network HD and HGTV HD in Western Carolinas

Charter just gifted Asheville, NC with five new HD channels in July, but considering how bleak the HD lineup was there, these two couldn't have arrived soon enough. As of this week, Food Network HD and HGTV HD have been added on slots 756 and 757 (respectively) in the Asheville, NC and Greenville-Spartanburg, SC systems. Trust us, the carrier is still struggling over there, so we'll totally understand if you customers in the area start bickering for more in a week or so.

LIN TV-owned stations go dark across many TWC systems

Reports have been flooding in from across Ohio, Indiana and Texas to confirm the cold, hard truth: LIN TV has begun removing its stations from Time Warner Cable systems. Last month, we found that the two were still in disagreement over carriage terms, with LIN TV wanting TWC to pony up to carry stations that could otherwise be fetched OTA for free. Amazingly, they let the October 2nd deadline come and go without even a stopgap deal, meaning that some locals in Dayton, Columbus, Toledo, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Austin, Green Bay, Buffalo and a handful of other cities have now vanished from TWC's EPG. In a posting made on the carrier's site, it bluntly states that LIN TV is "trying to make up for lower ratings and advertising revenue by adding fees that will fall, ultimately, on the backs of our cable customers." Granted, that's only one half of the story, but here's the bottom line: you two need to come to terms, and fast.

Time Warner Cable makes Buffalo's HD lineup even more robust

We know, we know -- Buffalo residents are just now seeing their HD lineup look even remotely similar to lineups seen in other areas of the Empire State, but we can't help but be envious. Since August 28th, Time Warner Cable has added 25 high-def stations in the region, with the latest four going live today. FOX Business HD, Tennis Channel HD, Planet Green HD and BIO HD have found their way onto slots 719, 732, 741 and 743 (in order of mention). There were no specifics given as to future lineup enhancements, but WNY Division President Terence Rafferty did state that it would "continue to add popular HD content for [its] customers." After all of this, we halfway believe him. [Warning: PDF read link; disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]

CableLabs certifies first tru2way Panasonic HDTVs

Sure it hasn't always been smooth going, but it looks like Panasonic's tru2way HDTV has successfully navigated into a sector containing high quantities of win. That puts the 42- and 50-inch PZ80Q televisions seen at CEDIA on track to hit shelves before Christmas as promised, though official pricing information still eludes us. Still undergoing testing in the labs? A Panasonic tru2way STB, while previously certified hardware from Samsung and LG remains in limbo and ADB's tru2way-certified box waits in the wings. Those eagerly awaiting the second coming of CableCard, keep your wallets at the ready.

Comcast adds TBS HD in West Lafayette, IN

We can only hope that this has happened in more locales than one, but at least in West Lafayette, Indiana, Comcast has flipped on TBS HD just in time for the MLB playoffs to get going. For those of you there in Purdue-land, it's on slot 926. For everyone else, be sure and let us know if your carrier has also green lit the station in time for baseball's most riveting month.

RCN brings the Analog Crush to Washington, DC

Project Analog Crush is in full swing, and RCN's next target is the nation's capital. The carrier is reclaiming analog spectrum and converting it to all digital in the Washington, D.C. area next month, and it's hoping to use all that freed bandwidth to deliver 75+ high-definition channels in the near future. Be on the lookout for notification of the changes real soon -- you'll be needing a digital converter box or CableCARD if you're still tapping into pure analog cable.

TWC brings another 5 HD stations to Buffalo's EPG

We're beginning to wonder if these 5-spots will ever end, as Time Warner Cable has once more delivered five new HD stations to its loyal customers in Buffalo, New York. The company has now added 20 high-def channels over the past two weeks as it attempts to build up the former Adelphia footprint into one with a respectable HD lineup. This go 'round, we've got The Learning Channel HD (736), Toon Disney HD (748), ABC Family HD (749), Sports New York (SNY) HD (731) and National Geographic HD (734) being added in, bringing the high-definition total (at least for the moment) to 33.

Charter trying to nab TBS HD prior to MLB playoffs

While Verizon already secured TBS HD for its FiOS TV customers prior to the start of the MLB playoffs, Charter Communications subscribers may or may not be so fortunate. Particularly for Brewers fans in Wisconsin, the desire need to land this station in short order is crucial to their well being, and according to corporate spokeswoman Anita Lamont, the carrier is working hard to make it happen. Currently, the station isn't slated to go live until October 14th, but that's obviously far beyond the date baseball fans are hoping for. In somewhat related news, Charter Wisconsin is also scheduled to launch Animal Planet HD, Movie Channel HD and Smithsonian HD in mid-October, so even if the whole TBS thing doesn't happen on time, not all joy is lost.

Broadstripe adds Big Ten Network in Michigan, HD feed to follow shortly

Michigan & Michigan State fans on Broadstripe should be pleased, with Big Ten Network securing carriage on yet another provider in its home territory. The SD feed is already up and running on Channel 55, with the HDTV version due on channel 412 September 30, in plenty of time before the big football game October 25. Broadstripe also plans to serve up any additional BTN football feeds on another channel if necessary, with VOD service due later this year. Any more questions?

TWC officially on a roll, adds 5 more in Buffalo, NY

What can we say? When you're hot, you're hot. After adding ten new high-definition channels over the past week, Time Warner Cable has decided to dish out five more to the fine citizens of Buffalo, New York. As the rest of TWC nation grows increasingly envious, Buffalo residents can now enjoy Food HD (716), ESPNews HD (728), MSG HD (730) Outdoor Channel 2 HD (733) and Travel Channel HD (735). Alrighty, it's about time to start spreadin' the love, don'tcha think? [Disclosure: Engadget is part of the Time Warner family]
